Modeling Tips

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You’re on your own, and you know what you know. And you are the guy who’ll decide where to go.

Lovelies, I get asked all the time how to be a model in SL so I figured to write up a small post with some things that I have done that seemed to help me. This is just my own personal opinion and I am just trying to help so take it all with a grain of salt 🙂

1). First of all to start, you have to have a thick skin and be aware there can be a lot of drama and nastiness in modeling. If you have a thick skin and stay out of the drama, that will be so so so much better for you career wise.
2). You have to have lindens! You need money for nice hairs, poses, a walk, a nice skin and to try to keep up to date and ahead of the trends in SL. Sure you get a killer wardrobe but you need to have nice poses and a walk as well as hair and accessories for the outfits. You do not make much money in modeling, I will not lie.

3). Be willing to complete an academy like MWV or MBMA. Especially being a new model, they will help you with everything from your shape to your skin to your poses. MBMA was only $6k lindens and MVWA was $14,000.  You do not need a school but I highly recommend one. You need to have a model shape at least for modeling and they will help you make one.

4). Have a realistic looking skin and eye color if you want to be in fashion modeling. If you are doing rp or fantasy modeling, then maybe you can play with your eye color and your hair colors overall you want to look as real as you can. Try to find you that you like and stick with it, tweak it as you see fit and as you change your skins, you might have to tweak your shape and your bald base for that specific skin. Wear a hairbase to match your hair almost always!

5). Join groups like Best of Second Life, modelS, Versus and Be Style District so you can read their monthly magazines and see what the trends are in SL. There are a number of magazines you can read to see what is going on. Start a blog! Read blogs! Read blogs like Anna Sapphire’s, Wicca Merlin’s, Caoimine Lionheart’s and Falbala Fairey. They are AMAZING. Read and see what the current rl trends are and what is coming up.
6). Make friends and most of all remember to have fun after all we come here to have fun after all. Ask questions to established models. I bug my friends all the time and ask them about looks. Google is your friend! If someone gives you a theme like Origami fashion, Google images will help you see what the heck they are talking about.

7). Have a nice, current profile! Hide groups that can be questionable and try to have a nice profile head shot. Keep your picks clean and above all, try to keep your reputation clean and reputable. Have a good attitude and try to be humble.
